It is not lost on me that on a day that is to celebrate love, we see hate on display through a horrific, tragic school shooting in Florida. Will you pray with me (and feel free to share, and add any additional areas of prayer in the comment section).
Heavenly Father, it’s at times like these that I feel the darkness closing in. Through blurry eyes I see news stories speaking of more than 17 dead, multiple injuries, and social media posts pointing fingers at particular races and political agendas. We don’t want to add to the noise. Open our eyes to see that we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. The only way to fight that is with the mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, that You give us, God. So we fight now with the weapon of prayer, knowing that prayer is not “all we can do”, but THE MOST we can do. We pray now for:
-the families of those who lost their lives
-healing for those fighting for their lives
-the first responders, emergency, and medical personnel
-for the leadership of the city of Parkland, the state of Florida, and our country
-the students and staff who were present as they battle those memories
-this is a hard one, Lord, but we even pray for the shooter

And when we want to worry or complain, Holy Spirit, turn our hearts instead to You, telling you every detail of our lives. Then Your wonderful peace that transcends human understanding, will make the answers known to us through Jesus Christ. So, rather than joining the dark noise around us, we choose to keep our thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honorable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind. And we fasten our thoughts on every glorious work of You, God, praising You always! In Your magnificent, holy, and powerful name, Jesus, we pray. And all of God’s people said...
